28 Jun 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye unveiled with demonic 797 hp

The limited edition Dodge Demon may be dead, but its spirit will live on in the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye.

The new muscle car model features a motor that summons a few elements from the 808 hp Demon’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8 in an effort to outdo the original Hellcat’s 707 hp with a monstrous 797 hp.

Among the updates are a larger 2.7-liter supercharger, dual fuel pumps, a heavy-breathing induction system with twin snorkels on the hood, and a “Power Chiller” that can use the air conditioner to cool the intake air, which packs more oxygen into the cylinders to create bigger bangs.

The Redeye also possesses some of the Demon’s drag racing tech. This includes a line-lock, which brakes just the front wheels to make it easier to warm up the tires with a burnout, and a launch control system programmed to reduce wheel hop. Meanwhile, the Demon’s transmission brake, Drag Mode calibration and optional race gas compatible engine control unit were retired with it to help keep the 3,300 examples of it that were built a little extra special.  Dodge is offering the Hellcat Redeye in normal and widebody versions, both with a claimed top speed of 203 mph. The fatter tires on the widebody help deliver a 10.8-second quarter-mile time, while the standard version trails it at a still-blistering 11.1 seconds.

Unlike the Demon, the Hellcat won’t be offered from the factory with just one seat, but a rear seat and belt delete package is available to turn it into a two-passenger vehicle.

Pricing for the Hellcat Redeye will be announced closer to its on sale date this fall, but should land somewhere between the 2018 Hellcat’s $65,995 and Demon’s $84,995.
